Leonard Jakovina got his first job as a ballet dancer at the Bayerische Staatsballett in Munich, where he was awarded the status of a soloist in 2003.
In the past fourteen seasons, he has performed with the same success a large number of roles of classical, neoclassical, contemporary and modern repertoire, some of which have been created for him, such as Madia’s Don Juan, Bigonzetti's Caravaggio, Mujić's Out of 99. He co-operated with the most famous choreographers of today and in their ballets realized roles of the widest range. He was Drosselmeyer in Orsara, Benno / Rotbart in Swan Lake, Jefferson Hogg at Das Flammende Herz and Hilarion in Giselle choreographed by Patrice Barta, Blue Bird / Pas de cinq in Rudolf Nuriev’s Sleeping Beauty, Paris / Tibaldo in Romeo and Juliette and Gremin in John Crank’s Onegin. Prison Guard / Young Man in Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon, Orion in Frederick Ashton’s Sylvia, Prince in Angelin Preljocaj’s Snow White, Death in Heinz Spoerli’s Peer Gynt, Alter ego in Boris Eifman’s Tchaikovsky, King Misha in Vasily Medvedev’s Nutcracker.
He has performed in celebration of contemporary ballet performances, such as Black Cake and Bits and Pieces of Hans van Manen, Svadebka, Symphony in D, Forgoten Land Jiří Kylian, The Lady of the Camellias of John Neumeier and many more.
With Munich and Berlin ballet he has participated in many tours throughout Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Russia, Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, India etc. He often and independently performed at ballet gala concerts such as Malakhov and friends in Japan and Poland, Prix de Benois in Moscow.
In recent years he has been involved in pedagogical work and preparing dancer colleagues for various international competitions and gala concerts on European ballet stages (Italy, Germany, France, Spain).
In 2003 he was nominated for the Croatian Ballet Award for the exceptionally ballet performance of young artists up to 28 years, and in 2009 she was nominated by the Berlin Teatro Club for the annual award as the most promising artist in the category of opera / drama / ballet. About his career and achievements, the German TV channel ZDF recorded a short documentary entitled Der Tänzer in the Die Theatermacher series in 2010.
Since December 2014, Leonard Jakovina works as Director of Ballet of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb.
